Rally of Bathurst 2nd November 2024

By Anita

…another weekend of memories for Team Benefi at the Rally of Bathurst. Well done to Nige and Mick who brought us in at 21st out of 35 cars. No-one cares that 14 DNF`d (did not finish). Even the service crew was out on the road at Carcoar Showground and roadside near Blayney – loving the countryside drives – probably 200km all up.

It’s always concerning when Mick arrives in service holding the fire extinguisher in his hand. Nothing a rebolt can’t fix and a quick windshield clean. I even had time to enjoy Carcoar – the town time forgot…with its rolling hills and italian feel.  Even managed a few shots at the Carcoar Spectator point which is hard to fit in with servicing.

The team had some great stage runs, with only minor issues – we seem to be missing a mud flap, a few new unknown dings\scratches – no one could recall why the dents were there – obviously having you much fun!

Probably should have refuelled on last Blayney service, rather than 2nd last as the boys limped in to finish in Bathurst with only 5km fuel. Even more impressive – I had our gear packed and ready to load the car. Shame the marquee was origami by the end of day.

Thanks to the great job of the Rally Car Club and the fabulous cold cokes and sausage sizzle on finish. We left for Sydney just after dusk and had the boys tie up the muffler on the rally car – didn’t want to catch it on my car on the way home.

Along the Bathurst plains we encounted a surreal giant red kangaroo at 80km an hour seeming in the air pirouetting in between 4 lanes of traffic – just missing us all as time stood still . I waved goodbye to the boys and took the convertible through the ethereal fog of Bells Line of Road between Lithgow and Richmond and home. Another weekend of adventure over…
